Trump won. America lost.
Racism won. Mysogyny won. Ignorance won. Conspiracy theories won. War, anger, hatred, — all victorious, as a dark cloud of evil delivered a decisive loss for Democrats. There was only one victory for Democrats in Denton County. Julie Johnson became the first openly gay person elected in the South. That win is a shallow and meaningless victory of no significance for anyone except Johnson.
Donald Trump, a man who is a convicted felon, rapist, liar, and con-man; an aging, senile, belligerent, exceedingly ignorant, vile, contemptible, narcissitic, vulgar, low class, convicted perpetrator of frauds, has won the favor of nescient voters. His campaign was a profound deception of a people, and a crippling blow to the sanctity of American values.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss, along with her running mate Tim Walz, is an immeasurable defeat for America and the Free World. Republican voters have been duped by monied interests. We will all pay the price.
Ukraine will pay the price. NATO will suffer consequences. The chances that Republicans will no longer fund Ukraine’s effort to defend their country against Russian aggression have increased.
Women will pay the price. Public school teachers will pay the price. Texas, defended its reputation as a backward state and will likely invoke public vouchers for the upper middle-class who want to pay for private Christian schools. Citizens with brown skin – aka, anyone who looks like they might be an illegal immigrant – will pay the price.
Europe will pay the price of the insolence of American Republicans. Under Trump’s leadership, America will become increasingly Nationalistic as he implements isolationist economic policies (aka tariffs).
Taiwan will lose. Trump will negotiate anything of value in order to maintain the falsity of his diplomatic “superiority”. He will submit to China. Taiwan will fall. The South Sea will see an increased military presence. Russia will continue to arm and exploit the Arctic Circle.
Trump’s promise of retaliation against his “enemies” will start a lengthy and expensive legal process. He will likely pardon all of those convicted for the January 6th, insurrection he caused. Lawlessness is the Soup of the Day. It is on the menu. Civil servants in Washington are on notice as is the Department of Education, the FDA, the IRS, the Justice Department, and all of the military generals who Trump does not trust. The house will be cleaned, in preparation for the dirt Trump intends to bring with him. He will give out pardons like CVS gives out coupons. Remember how many of his 2016 team went to jail?
Conservative writers will denounce the post Cold War politics of the Bush, Clinton, Biden age, and maintain that Trump’s return to power reflects the public’s noble desire to rid the Federal government of its aging institutional cronyisms, but all of that is just the mutterings of arm chair theorists who would flatter the masses for their own edifications. Trump won because he appealed to what is base in Americans. Throw the Cold War argument out: there is nothing enlightening by Trump’s victory. He is the idiot king. Fortunately, he will only rule for four years – three, if you allow for the lame duck status of his fourth year, and two if the midterms reclaim the Senate for the Democrats. In two years, he can still do an incredible amount of damage.
The biggest local loss was a crippling blow to the Democratic Party. In Denton County, Texas they lost every race save one. School systems (Frisco, Argyle) lost bond referendums. Across the nation, as the fallout from this incredibly poor Democratic showing materializes, the inability of Democrats to defend the Senate majority, the loss of the Executive branch of government, and the prevailing corruption fostered in the Judicial Branch, against an angry, exceedingly unenlightened mob and their criminal champion, marks a profound and punctuated failure for Democrats everywhere. If you can’t beat a criminal, what good are you?
The winners of the election are noteworthy. Russia, North Korea, China, Israel. Today was a win for religious bigotry. The lunatic fringe of Christianity will continue to be insufferable. The defense of civility has been undone: we are entrenched in an illiberal age; the dark age of Right Wing Conservatism. Good people don’t win anymore. Liars win. Criminals win. The villains win.
What comes next? History tells that story. Americans will learn to live in fear and division. Riots. Death. War. Political instability. Revenge, Lawlessness. Increased crime. Economic instability. Inflation. Continued destruction of America and the Rule of Law, authoritarianism, loss of freedom, rise of dictatorships. If you have not studied history, you are in for one helluva ride.
